Completed! Mel's Annual CyberStars Summit

2010 Real Estate CyberStars Summit in Scottsdale, Arizona
I returned this week from attending my 2nd (2009 & 2010) CyberStars Summit in Scottsdale, Arizona.  It was a fantastic conference attended by 140 top-producing and technology oriented Realtors from across the United States and Canada.  I am the exclusive CyberStars Realtor for Columbia, SC (there are only 5 CyberStars in South Carolina).
The CyberStars group was founded by Allen Hainge, a top Real Estate instructor, fifteen years ago.  Allen has led the growth in this exclusive group from the initial 4 CyberStars to a group of just over 200 today.  During the year, this group shares ideas through an online community and then the really big event is the annual summit.   It's a fast paced two days of sharing the  best and latest in technology software and hardware and other ideas to provide the very best in real estate service and marketing.   THANK YOU ALLEN for all that you have done for this group over many years!

This year, Allen turned over leadership in the group to Brad Korn.  I wish Brad the very best in leading the CyberStars going forward.  He has been very involved with the group for a number of years and has been especially motivational in implementation of our technology ideas.

Over the next month, I will be posting about items that I will implement in my real estate practice and other ideas that you can use in your personal or business computing.  Most of it is FREE stuff!  Watch out for my first amazing post next week!  It's useful and FREE technology that you can use at home or for your business.

Welcome: Relocating Families to Summer Nuclear Station

Coming Soon: New Nuclear Generation for South Carolina

South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCE&G) has made application for a combined license (COL) for two Westinghouse Advanced Passive 1000 (AP1000) Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) designated as V.C. Summer Nuclear Station, Units 2 and 3. This new project will be located at SCE&G's V.C. Summer Nuclear Station site in Fairfield County, South Carolina near the community of Jenkinsville.

I worked for SCE&G 26 years and the last four years were at V.C. Summer Nuclear Station.  I know the importance of having reliable and efficient mixes of electric generation.  These new reactors will supply that electric power to South Carolina for many years.
Nuclear power is clean, economical, and reliable.
A single pellet of nuclear fuel, about the size of a pencil eraser, can produce as much electricity as a ton of coal or 17,000 cubic feet of natural gas.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2011 with Unit #1 in service in 2016 and Unit #2 in service in 2019.  Planning and infrastructure work is already underway.

Already, I'm assisting folks calling to relocate to the Columbia area as the utility company hires workers to build this massive new project.  Besides reliable power, the project will massively stimulate the Columbia area with new jobs and the related benefits to the Greater Columbia area.

Is Yours Clean? (Your Home Air Filters)

Improving Air Quality in Your Home
Research has found that in homes across America, the quality of indoor air can be worse than outdoor air.

There is nothing EASIER & More Cost Effective Than Regularly Changing the HVAC Filters in Your Home for CLEAN AIR.  This also certainly improves HVAC system operation and helps to prolong the life of this expensive equipment.

I see MANY dirty air filters in homes that I show to prospective home buyers (both homes in need of overall repair and otherwise nice homes). I highly recommend buying premium filters. An electrostatic air filter with a MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value) rating of 11 or higher better protects your inside living environment and your HVAC equipment. A MERV number is used to help compare filters. The MERV efficiency rating is the filters ability to capture specific micron sized particles. A higher MERV rating indicates a better performing filter. A typcial $1 fiberglass filter will have a MERV rating of 1 or so. To easily remember, change your filter at the end of each quarter.   CLICK HERE for Mel Coker's Home Clean Air web page.

I've recently ordered another supply of high quality MERV 12 air filters from NordicPure.  My filters (ordering 6 at a time) were $8.83 each (FREE shipping).    Filtrete (3M) filters at Wal-Mart range in price from $13.88 to $19.88.   Buy your filters online today and change them on December 31st and quarterly thereafter.
