Welcome: Relocating Families to Summer Nuclear Station

Coming Soon: New Nuclear Generation for South Carolina

South Carolina Electric & Gas (SCE&G) has made application for a combined license (COL) for two Westinghouse Advanced Passive 1000 (AP1000) Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR) designated as V.C. Summer Nuclear Station, Units 2 and 3. This new project will be located at SCE&G's V.C. Summer Nuclear Station site in Fairfield County, South Carolina near the community of Jenkinsville.

I worked for SCE&G 26 years and the last four years were at V.C. Summer Nuclear Station.  I know the importance of having reliable and efficient mixes of electric generation.  These new reactors will supply that electric power to South Carolina for many years.
Nuclear power is clean, economical, and reliable.
A single pellet of nuclear fuel, about the size of a pencil eraser, can produce as much electricity as a ton of coal or 17,000 cubic feet of natural gas.
Construction is scheduled to begin in 2011 with Unit #1 in service in 2016 and Unit #2 in service in 2019.  Planning and infrastructure work is already underway.

Already, I'm assisting folks calling to relocate to the Columbia area as the utility company hires workers to build this massive new project.  Besides reliable power, the project will massively stimulate the Columbia area with new jobs and the related benefits to the Greater Columbia area.
