Horse Riding Vacations

Mel & Barbara Get in the Saddle Again!
Looking for a neat horseback riding vacation?  I have two suggestions.

Barbara and Mel on High Mountain Ride - 2000
Our first significant horseback riding experience was at a Colorado dude ranch.   We visited Waunita Hot Springs Ranch in 1996, 1998 and 2000.   We have missed this place greatly and hope to return in the near future (we got stuck on lots of Caribbean vacations).  This is a great family owned ranch high in the Rockies - the ranch is located at approximately 9000 feet elevation.    The riding program is fantastic and there are a number of other activities included such as jeep excursions, camping, river rafting trip, fly fishing and more.   Towards the end of the week, there is a ride of about 5-6 hours to Stella Mountain at over 12,500 feet!  Of course, the scenery is spectacular.

This past week, we made a 2 1/2 hour drive over to Madion, Georgia to visit the Southern Cross Guest Ranch.   We had a a two night stay that included riding one morning.   This is also a beautiful place.  The ranch encompasses approximately 250 acres and they have about 200 horses.   Qualified riders (a comfortable degree of horseback riding experience) may ride on the ranch's many miles of trails or open pasture.  This operates as a bed and breakfast or all-inclusive.   Packages are available that have different meal and riding plans.  It's a short drive from Columbia... Barbara and I highly recommend Southern Cross.
